Village Gerethang, Sikkim (India) goes Zero Waste!

8th May, 2013
Just wanted to update everyone that during a zerowaste workshop at Gerethang village in west sikkim recently, the Gram Panchayat Unit of Gerethang Labing comprising over 600 households, passed a resolution to not use any paper or styrofoam plates, mugs, plastic spoons social gatherings. Further, they will not sell any of these goods in shops either. Simultaneously,an SHG would be producing and supplying leaf-based products. I think this is a historic decision, hopefully other GPs will follow suit and it personally is a huge milestone for me in the zerowaste mission. Hurrah to all..And Jai ZEROWASTE!!! -Ms. Yishey Youngda
