Thanal and Save our Rice campaign is jointly conducting Rice Field Weeks programme in the 3rd consecutive year at Rice Diversity Block ( RDB) at Thanal Agro Ecology Centre in Panavally in Wayanad district of Kerala from 14th November to 25th November 2016. The RDB in the centre is the largest of its kind in Kerala, which has 219 indigenous paddy varieties including 164 varieties of Kerala. The RDB has an array of special paddy varieties such as medicinal paddy varieties, scented paddy varieties, paddy varieties exclusively for payasam, upland paddy varieties, saline tolerant paddy varieties, deep water paddy varieties, flood tolerant paddy varieties, malnad paddy varieties ect. Rice field weeks programme is a unique opportunity to see and realize the magnificence of the indigenous paddy diversity of our land. The programme has 2 days seed savers network meeting which is on 12th and 13th of November and field day programme on the rest of the days. The RDB will be open for the public during these days. Those who wish to visit the RDB have to contact Thanal office before 31st October. Those who contact first will be provided the opportunity to visit the RDB and maximum of 30 people will be allowed at a time.
