Shibu K. Nair is a graduate in commerce and a diploma holder in mass communication and journalism. Awarded Zero Waste Fellowship in 2002 and completed training on Zero Waste from Ecology Centre and GAIA in Berkeley, California. Joined Thanal in 1991 to volunteer for environment education programmes and since 2000 leads the Zero Waste programmes, projects and campaigns of Thanal.
He is the Director, Zero Waste and Climate Action at Thanal and facilitates Zero Waste Cities, Carbon Neutral Communities, break free from plastics and Climate Resilient Kerala projects. He coordinates Zero Waste Himalaya Network and is a member of Regional Advisory Committee as well as Global Leadership Committee of Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA). He is representing Thanal in National Steering Group of Climate Action Network - South Asia in India. He was a guest faculty in Kerala Institute of Local Administration and State Institute of Rural Development under Ministry of Local Self Government of Kerala.
He represents Thanal in State level Government Technical / Monitoring committees on climate change, Solid Waste and Plastic waste Management. He provides technical consultancy to governments, institutions and communities on solid waste management, zero waste systems, rural development and climate change.
