Paddy and Wetland eco systems play a vital role the water cycle of a region. These vast reservoirs support the food security as well as maintaining the local climate. Unfortunately, these fragile eco systems have been targetted for ‘development’ projects and is fast disappearing. The left over paddy and wetland eco systems are either getting polluted by waste dumping or industrial pollution. A concerted effort from the public and Governments is necessary to preserve these treasures which defines our survival on earth.
Thanal have launched a campaign to preserve Paddy and Wetlands in Kerala and that resulted in Paddy and Wetland Conservation Act. The challenge is to get the law enacted to save existing paddy and wetland eco systems.
